watch out for children
A year before Francis Ford Coppola graced the 1980s with S.E. Hinton's adaptations of THE OUTSIDERS and RUMBLE FISH, Tim Hunter created this extremely edgy and haunting Disney film. In fact many complained that the PG film had so much swearing and adult subject matter that it may have kickstarted the beginnings of the PG-13 rating which came into effect in 1984. Matt Dillon's hilarious and hypnotic performance had Pauline Kael stating he had an "extraordinarily natural grasp on acting" and punctuated his defining troubled teen roles (i.e. OVER THE EDGE & LITTLE DARLINGS.) Keep your eyes peeled for moving moments with Ben Johnson, Meg Tilly and Emilio Estevez debut film! 35mm print courtesy of Walt Disney. 103m. Preceded by other troubled-teen trailers.

watch out for childrenAttempting to screen this definitive punk film has been a decade long goal of MiDNiTES FOR MANiACS and the time has finally come! Unearthing an original 16mm print, come on out to THIS EXTREMELY RARE TRIBUTE & SCREENiNG for a film that studios delayed the release of, scared rebellious teenagers would rise up against all adults and take over the world. Casting real 14-year-olds, blasting actual anthems of the times (CHEAP TRICK & THE RAMONES), while capturing the poetic horrors of modern suburbia, this honest & gritty exploration of rebels without a cause is just as explosive now as it was 30 years ago! 95m.

SPECiAL Q&A follows the screening with filmmakers Charlie S. Haas, Tim Hunter & Jonathan Kaplan led by multi-media artist Peter Conheim & host Jesse Hawthorne Ficks.

11:45pm - RIVER'S EDGE (1986)
Written by Neal Jimenez; Directed by Tim Hunter
Containing: Crispin Glover, Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper, Ione Skye, Daniel Roebuckdebutantes

We conclude our extravaganza of "Watching Out For Children" with Tim Hunter's seminal look at apathy in a post-punk 1980s. Watch a group of teens whose irony and "over-it" attitude is so realistic that the film's icy title may even lap it's way up onto your own cynical views. Crispin Glover's legendary presentation of Layne will only exceed all expectations while Daniel Roebuck's understated incarnation of a generation-gone-wrong can only be topped by Dennis Hopper's consistently creepy father figure (see OUT OF THE BLUE and RUMBLE FISH). Throw in the sweet & naive Keanu Reeves/Ione Skye and you've got a genuine, neo-sincere classic exposing a yet another era's bout with the almighty "generation gap." 99m. Preceded by other dark and twisted teen trailers. SPECiAL iNTRODUCTiON by director Tim Hunter.
