man

Perhaps we have forgotten a time when Hollywood films didn't incorporate animation into its live action films. But in 1988, Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future trilogy) delivered one of the most historically subversive and technically inventive animated films of the decade. Producer Steven Spielberg managed to convince the studios of Walt Disney, Warner Bros., Fleischer Studios (Betty Boop) and even Felix the Cat Productions to combine their hand drawn cartoon characters into a cluster-truckload of frantic, fanatical and even a little frightening fun. Not only did this "kids flick" single-handedly kickstart Walt Disney's renaissance, it arguably did the same for the Neo-Film Noir explosion of the 1990s. Did I mention the evening will also be celebrating everyone's favorite cinematographer Dean Cundey (Halloween) who just received a lifetime achievement award! Bring the whole family to this smart, silly and sneaky tribute to the City of Angels, circa 1950s. Preceded by 35mm trailers of other pioneering Live Action/Animated spectacles. 35mm print courtesy of Walt Disney. RATED PG. Running Time: 104 minutes.

***With SPECiAL BONUS of two Roger Rabbit short films screened from 35mm prints immediately following the film!***

9:45pm - eD WOOD (1995)
(20th ANNIVERSARY 35MM SCREENING!)

Directed by Tim Burton
Containing Johnny Depp, Martin Landau, Sarah Jessica Parker, Patricia Arquette, Lisa Marie & Bill Murray

no pain
Practicing what his subject preached, Tim Burton made his most personal film 20 years ago with this genuine tribute to a filmmaker that many still mistakenly refer to as "The Worst Filmmaker of All Time"... Ed Wood. The effects that Johnny Depp's loving performance of this infamous artist are still being felt two decades later. Tracing the ups and downs of this truly unique and independent auteur, screenwriters Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski chose to celebrate their subject as opposed to snarkishly ridicule him and the results are nothing more than inspirational. Martin Landau is downright heartbreaking in his Oscar winning portrayal of Bela Lugosi in his post-Hollywood years, Bill Murray (as usual) steals every scene he's in and Howard Shore's score will have you bouncing up and down in your silent-era seats. Those curious about what MiDNiTES FOR MANiACS core philosophy is based on, you need to attend this underrated masterpiece. Especially since the director and screenwriters have re-teamed for this Christmas' BiG EYES about Margaret Keane and her unique paintings in the 1950s/60s! 20th Anniversary 35mm screening courtesy of Walt Disney. Preceded by 35mm trailers for upcoming M4M events. RATED R. Running Time: 127 minutes.

Still only $12 for one or both films!
