(30th anniversay 35mm screening!)
Written and Directed by Sylvester Stallone
w/ Sly, Carl Weathers, Talia Shire, Burgess Meredith, The HULKSTER & MR. T!
man

While Sylvester Stallone has been ridiculed by critics and high brow audiences all his life, he somehow has managed to consistently side step their contempt and continue a career of classic even era defining genre films. 1982 brought forth both FiRST BLOOD and ROCKY III which he wrote and directed and now thirty years later, it's quite clear that he was a lot smarter than people recognized. Come celebrate what some arguably consider the most enjoyable ROCKY sequel with wonderful WWF-style performances by not only Carl Weathers but Hulk "The Hulkster" Hogan and hands down the greatest performance of Mr. T's career! Don't forget about Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" theme and the Italian Stallion himself whose self-aware script should truly make you bite your snarky little tongues and perhaps kickstart a lifetime achievement Oscar for Sly's inspiring 40+ year career. Preceded by a fistful of Stallone's trailers. 35mm print courtesy of MGM. Rated R. Running Time: 100 minutes.

9:15pm - THE PROFESSiONAL (1994)
(19th ANNIVERSARY 35MM SCREENING!)

Written & Directed by Luc Besson
Containing: Jean Reno, Nathalie Portman, Danny Aiello & the almighty Gary Oldman!

no pain
Following up on writer/director Luc Besson's LA FEMME NIKITA (1990), he fleshed out a very similar character played by Jean Reno and renamed him Leon for this surprise genre hit of 1994. Reno perfectly inhabits this hermit-ed hired gun while the hypnotic debut of a genuine 12 year old Nathalie Portman and the deliciously diabolical baddie delivered by Gary Oldman rounds out what has to be one of the most romantic love stories of the 1990s. Complete with Besson's knack for ultra-stylized violence and spilling with scrumptious sentimentality, this gangster film is one you don't want to miss at what Quentin Tarantino recently called his "Dream movie theatre." Preceded by trailers for upcoming M4M screenings. 35mm print courtesy of Sony Pictures. Rated R. Running Time: 110 minutes

11:59pm - STRANGE DAYS (1995)
Written by James Cameron & Jay Cocks Directed by Kathryn Bigelow Containing: Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, Juliette Lewis, Tom Sizemore and Vincent D'Onofrio
manA financial disaster upon its release in 1995, STRANGE DAYS is one of those underrated gems that defines MiDNiTES FOR MANiACS. While James Cameron & Jay Cocks' subversively satirical script was lightyears ahead of its time (ok, THE MATRiX came out three years later), its Kathryn Bigelow's technical brilliance by way of her unique and precise roaming camerawork and Cameron's psychotic schizoid editing that brings this Cyber-sexual extravaganza to heights beyond your wildest expectations. Come jack-in and be wire-tripped by both the truly baadasssss performance of Angela Bassett and one of our generation's greatest filmmakers Kathryn Bigelow who seems to consistently be paving not only cinematic roads for future filmmakers but for creating cinema primed for maniacal film critics to explore decades after. Preceded by trailers for other classic Bigelow films. 35mm Widescreen print courtesy of 20th Century Fox. Running Time: 145 minutes
