7:20pm - INTERViEW WITH THE VAMPiRE (1994)
Written by Anne Rice; Directed by Neil Jordan
Containing Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Kirsten Dunst, Christian Slater, Thandie Newton, Stephen Rea and Antonio Banderas
home

Can you believe its been 20 years since Anne Rice's book was finally adapted for the big screen? It's time to revisit and perhaps recognize this grandiose gothic tale as one of Hollywood's most profound horror films. Hot on the heels of Jonathan Demme's Oscar sweeping SilLENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991), U.K. director Neil Jordan was given final cut to this haunting, thought provoking and downright gory excursion. Controversy arose when Tom Cruise was announced to play the leading Lestat character, from even its own creator (who had originally wanted Alain Delon and Rutger Hauer.) But in fact Cruise's transformation not only achieved one of his career best performances, creator Anne Rice was stunned at how spot-on his interpretation was. A twelve year old Kirsten Dunst and a drop-dead Brad Pitt inhabit their roles (and Sandy Powell's remarkable costumes) quite eerily while the streets of San Francisco have not looked so sinister since the days of Film Noir. 35mm Print. 123min. WARNiNG: RATED R for Extreme Gore, Violence, Extreme Sexuality, Instense/Terrifying Scenes (all of which supposedly sent Oprah Winfrey running for the doors within the first 20 minutes at the World Premiere.) Preceded by other Vampire classic trailers.

9:45pm - VAMPiRE'S KiSS (1989) - 25th Anniversary!
Written by Joseph Minion (AFTER HOURS)
Directed by Robert Bierman
Containing Nicolas Cage, Jennifer Beals, Maria Conchita Alonso, Kasi Lemmons

As MiDNiTES FOR MANiACS continues to celebrate Nicolas Cage's 50th Birthday year, this overlooked masterpiece not only defines his self-proclaimed acting style of "Nouveau Shamanic", it ranks right along side Sam Raimi's EViL DEAD 2 as one of the greatest horror/comedies of the 1980s. And even though Cage won an Independent Spirit Award for this knee slapping, genre-defying eye-popper, critics of the time and many audiences of recent quickly pan and/or dismiss the film. This RARE 35mm 25th Anniversary screening should cause a riotous post-film debate about redefining what "great" acting and filmmaking actually consists of. With an AFTER HOURS-esque 1980s New York vibe, keep your eyes open because this lil' genre gem has got it all (including a live performance by post punk/no wave band ESG!) Trust me... DO NOT READ ANYTHING ABOUT THIS FILM! Nicolas Cage is bar none the most exciting actor of our generation and this film will rinse your mouth of all your snarky jokes towards him. 103min. RATED R for Gore, Violence, Extreme Sexual Content, Intense/Terrifying Scenes. Preceded by other obscure NYC time capsule trailers.
