man

Continuing their masterful maturation (No Country For Old Men, A Serious Man, True Grit), the Coen Brothers have made another haunting historical adventure that cinephiles will be studying decades from now. Set in 1961 Greenwich Village, this deeply profound whirlwind follows the struggles of being a folk musician (Isaac) that is perhaps "too smart for his own good." With a cast of old (Goodman, Abraham) and new (Mulligan, Timberlake) greats and yet another unique and memorable soundtrack (T-Bone Burnett & Justin Timberlake) be prepared for heavy contemplation, multiple theories and your socks to be knocked completely off. Winner of Cannes Film Festival's Grand Prix yet fairly overlooked here in the States. This genuine masterpiece needs multiple viewings. Preceded by a bevy of Coen Brother trailers. DCP Presentation. Rated R. Running Time: 105min.

9:30pm - COAL MiNER'S DAUGHTER (1980)
(34th ANNIVERSARY 35MM SCREENING!)

Based on the Autobiography by Loretta Lynn
Directed by Michael Apted
w/ Sissy Spacek, Tommy Lee Jones, Beverly D'Angelo

no pain
Hands down one of the greatest musical bio-pics of all time. Country singer Loretta Lynn supposedly hand-picked Sissy Spacek to (actually sing &) play out the story of her epic, real-life journey. Spacek won an Oscar for one of her career-defining performance (see BADLANDS, CARRiE & 3 WOMEN) but do not forget to notice Tommy Lee Jones' thoughtful and nuanced choices as Doolittle Lynn. Bring Mom and Dad, bring Grandma and Grandpa, bring your estranged cousin! With the broadway musical adaptation in production with Zooey Deschanel, this rarely screened 35mm print is truly one of the most memorable musicals of the 1980s and seeing it in "the greatest movie theatre in the United States" will be something you will never forget. Preceded by other diegetic musical trailers. Rated PG. Original 35mm print. Running Time: 124min
