AEROBICIZE TRIPLE FEATURE!
Friday, April 21, 2006
at The Castro Movie theatre
in San Francisco, CA

Hey Maniax,
Thank you sooooo much for coming out to the GRRRRL Punk triple header last month! It truly was a dream come true.

But let's forget about March. It's time for some April 2006! And take a look at this early 80's Aerobicize triple feature!

7:30pm Staying Alive
Written & Directed by Sylvester Stallone
Cast: John Travolta, Cynthia Rhodes, (cameo by Sly). 1983, 93 minutes

We kick off our Aerobicize Triple Feature with John Travolta reprising his role from Saturday Night Fever, only now it's the early-80's and disco-dancing has mutated into an electro-aerobics scene where slutty spandex, homemade headbands and laser light- shows rule the night! With an unstoppable amount of memorable one-liners, Sylvester Stallone redefines the rock-montage sequence by making an entire sweat-fest in super- slow motion, to the beats of his brother's musical genius, Frank Stallone.

9:45pm Flashdance
Directed by Adrian Lyne (FOXES)
Cast: Jennifer Beals, Michael Nouri, Lilia Skala, Lee Ving. 1983, 95 minutes

"What a Feeling!" Jennifer Beals gives the performance of her career as a welder(?) who has dreams of becoming a ballet dancer. Beals perfectly captures the street-smart break-dancer who takes on the upper class-ically trained, and creates some kind of weird hybrid dancing called…Flashdance! Come on boys and girls, bust out those leg-warmers, strap on those sweatbands and lock in those walkmans, while we pay respect to this seminal 1983 extravaganza.

11:59pm Heavenly Bodies
– - Directed by Lawrence Dane
Cast: Cynthia Dale, Richard Rebiere, Laura Henry, Pam Henry. 1984, 90 minutes

Cynthia Dale (giving the only performance of her career) plays Samantha, a plucky young dancer who dreams of opening her very own health club, where you can stretch, sweat and have tons of fun. But once achieved, the threats begin to pile up from the male corporate competition. So Sam does what any gutsy woman would do…she challenges "the man" to a televised Aerobics-athon! Combining an insane amount of sexual sleaze with utterly inane dialogue, this Canadian knock-off of Flashdance is one of the most brilliantly absurd 80's films you've never heard of. (Not on DVD)
