man

Gore Verbinski's ode to Zane Grey's 1915 novel is hands down the most subversive and underrated Hollywood film since Paul Verhoeven's still misunderstood sci-fi masterpiece, Starship Troopers (1997). Combining a surprisingly ruthless "all-American" violence, ironic historical lessons, and an off-beat slapstick comedy that pits Tonto into the leading role, this psychotic masterpiece has many more legs than audiences were prepared for. And like the films that Verbinski & Depp were referencing, everything from Buster Keaton to John Ford to Sergio Leone, this epic genre celebration has slowly started to create a contemporary cult following including Quentin Tarantino who just put it on his favorite films of the year list. Come on out for this ultra-rare 35mm widescreen-ing and start deconstructing what will be uncovered decades from now as one of the best revisionist Westerns of all time. Preceded by other Johnny Depp Acid Western trailers as M4M continues to celebrate his 50th birthday! 149 minutes. Rated PG-13. 35mm print courtesy of Walt Disney.

(18th ANNIVERSARY 35MM SCREENING!)

Written and Directed by Jim Jarmusch
Containing Johnny Depp, Gary Farmer, Iggy Pop, Billy Bob Thornton, Robert Mitchum, Lance Henriksen, Alfred Molina and Crispin Glover

no pain
As we approach DEAD MAN's 20th Anniversary, it might finally be safe to say that this poetic exercise in black and white aesthetic and melancholic tone is Mr. Jarmusch's ultimate masterpiece. Hauntingly profound, there are very few films that create such a monumental journey for its main characters: Johnny Depp's William Blake and Gary Farmer's Nobody will strike such a chord in your soul that you'll get tears just watching the trailer. Not to mention Neil Young's fuzzed-out yet eerily rhythmatic soundtrack which has topped many underground lists as one of the most influential albums of the 1990s. Do not miss this rare 35mm screening courtesy of Miramax. Preceded by trailers for upcoming M4M events.

11:59pm - WALKER (1987)
(26th ANNIVERSARY 35MM SCREENING!)

Written by Rudy Wurlitzer; Directed by Alex Cox
Containing Ed Harris, Richard Masur, Peter Boyle, Marlee Matlin

manThis tripped out psychedelic 1980s Acid Western masterpiece baffled audiences upon its original release. It's time to revisit arguably Alex Cox's greatest film. (See REPO MAN & STRAiGHT TO HELL and then we can start the discussion.) This surreal, metaphysical journey has countless anachronisms which not only upset and confused most viewers and critics at the time, Universal Studios never hired him again which sadly allowed Alex Cox (one of the decade's most interesting filmmakers) to slip through the cracks of Hollywood. Just the soundtrack which was composed entirely by Joe Strummer is worth the admission alone! Do not miss this RARE 35mm screening courtesy of Universal. Preceded by some truly wacked out revisionist Western trailers. 94min.
