A GENUiNE TRiBUTE TO THE FiLMS OF PAUL VERHOEVEN – DAY THREE
Co-presented by MiDNiTES FOR MANiACS and Spoke Art
Spoke Art Museum and MiDNiTES FOR MANiACS are proud to co-present a 3-Day, 7-Film Retrospective of the work of Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven. Like Fritz Lang in the 1940s & 1950s, upon arriving in Hollywood, Veroheven’s complex, subversive and visionary genre films have polarized American audiences for 30 years now. Spoke Art will be presenting brand new limited edition screen prints for TOTAL RECALL, ROBOCOP & STARSHiP TROOPERS available for purchase exclusively for attendees.

Misunderstood by nearly every critic upon release 20 years ago, Paul Verhoeven’s follow-up to SHOWGIRLS ranks alongside Stanley Kubrick’s DR. STRANGELOVE (1964) as the greatest satire of war ever made. Hyper-violent and hypnotically subversive, Screenwriter Ed Neumeier’s facist-allegory brilliantly uses 90210-type acting to emphasize the obliviousness of a society to be brainwashed into committing absolute genocide. Surrealist filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky (EL TOPO) considers STARSHiP TROOPERS to be the only great American film of the past 30 years. WARNING: Film includes excessive blood and massive amounts of insect & human guts.) 35mm print. Rated “Hard” R. 129 minutes.
