9 TO 5 (1980) (PG) 1h 49 m

This unstoppably hilarious 1980s satire follows three secretaries (brilliantly portrayed by showcases Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton & Lily Tomlin) who decide to retaliate against their tyrannically sexist boss (Dabney Coleman) by abducting him and running the company themselves. Written & directed by Colin Higgins (who also scripted Harold & Maude), this truly defining 1980s feminist fantasy is the perfect medicine for present-day melancholies. 1980, 109 minutes.

THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS (1982, 40th Anniversary) (R) 1h 54 m

Our double feature tribute to Dolly Parton (and writer/director Colin Higgins) is downright beguiling as Miss Mona, the most bodaciously sex-positive madam to ever run the Chicken Ranch, one of the oldest running brothels in Texas. This deliriously deviant adaptation of the 1978 Broadway musical delivers a bevy of bombastic song-and-dances, along with quintessential roles by Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise. Though you may need to brace yourself for how hysterical Charles Durning’s performance is as the morally conflicted Texas governor, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Drag out your bedazzled boots and frazzled fringe for what will surely be a foot stomping good time. 1982, 114 minutes.
