The CRANK films are two of the most energetic, psychotic, inventive and downright exploitative films of the past decade. The plot is simple: Chev Chelios (played with guts and gusto by the almighty Jason Statham) has been injected with a Chinese synthetic drug that has stopped the flow of adrenaline to his heart. With the help of his doctor (Yoakam), his Genderqueer BFF (Ramirez) and his girlfriend (Smart), Statham bulldozes his way across Los Angeles. As he accumulates as many adrenaline inducing antics as possible, filmmakers Neveldine/Taylor manage to create one of the most outrageous Action films of the Y2Ks, with Statham doing all of his own stunts and using no trick wires or CGI! Picking up immediately after the end of the first CRANK, the entire cast and crew return combined with a truly mind blowing performance by Bai Ling (whose own personal life reflected the extreme chaos of the film!) Somehow, Statham and company take this hyper-kinetic energy to a-whole-nother level, giving even critics reason to celebrate the “borderline irresponsible, train-of-thought surrealism.” Oh and keep your ears clean for the brilliantly written experimental score by Mike Patton (Faith No More/Mr. Bungle). Rated “Hard” R. Running Time: 96 minutes.
