A 13-year-old Brooke Shields plays a precocious pre-teen, pinball wizard who runs away from her crummy Texan home and hitch-hikes across America with the hopes to compete at a premiere pinball tournament in Santa Cruz. CA.

This unfairly overlooked and extremely obscure coming-of-age film taps into similar “mature kids cinema” territory such as Rich Kids (1979), Little Darlings (1980) and Foxes (1980). Screenwriter Donald Cammell (Nicholas Roeg’s PERFORMANCE) and director Rudy Durand deliver a remarkably mature time-capsule of the late-1970s along with a hilarious Charles Durning, who steals the show as the ultimate pinball wizard named “The Whale”.

Throw in an addictively memorable soundtrack and “pinball-istic” cinematography by Richard H. Kline (who shot the original Star Trek feature the same year), and you’ve got yourself a 35mm screening that you won’t want to have missed. Not available streaming nor has it ever been released on any round disc (DVD, Bluray or 4K.)

Rights courtesy of WB. Rare 35mm print. Preceded by 35mm trailers. 111 minutes. Rated PG.

Joysticks (1983)

Watch the trailer

Writer/Director Greydon Clark concocted one of the greatest video game-craze movies of the 1980s by compiling valley girls, punks, nerds, slobs, hippies, boobies and Joe Don Baker all into the most “totally awesome video arcade” ever put to film.

Not to mention the legendary punk gang named The Vidiots, led by the almighty Jonathan (Uncle Rico) Gries! Greydon Clark is one of the great B-movie directors of all time. Come on out and help save the arcade from being closed down by the extremely relevant assortment of closed-minded townsfolk and play some video games while you’re at it!

Preceded by a gaggle of classic T&A trailers along tons of trivia and giveaways. Rights courtesy of AGFA. RARE Original 35mm print! 88 minutes. Rated R.
