South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho’s adaptation of a 1982 French graphic novel (Le Transperceniege) managed to achieve quite a contemporary cult folllowing due to its cerebral sci-fi script, memorable character development and whip smart allegories. With Chris Evans (Captain America) taking the lead of the a post-global warming revolution was not only prophetically subversive, it led the way for some of the decade’s juiciest roles for Song Kang-ho (J.S.A., The Host) and art-house favorite Tilda Swinton! The claustrophobic camerawork radiates towards films like Douglas Trumbull’s Silent Running (1972) and John Carpenter’s Dark Star (1974) while the constant progression of the high speed train will keep you gripped until the film’s jaw-dropping last shot. Rated R. Screens in a RARE 35mm print.
