Coming up on Friday, July 20th at The Castro Movie Palace in SF, CA.

7:30pm LITTLE DARLINGS – Directed by Ronald Maxwell
Containing: Tatum O’Neil, Kristy McNichol, Matt Dillon, Cynthia Nixon. 1980

We kick off our Summer Camp night with one of the most sincere female coming of age films ever made. With the same amount of compassion to girl’s struggles as FOXES, this camp competition places tuff grrrl Angel (McNichol) up against the snobby priss Ferris (O’Neil) as they both compete to see who can lose their virginity first. Nostalgic wacky antics ensue with everything from food-fights to late nights! But what really punctuates this is the genuinely heartbreaking performance by Kristy McNichol. Throw in a super young (and super cute) Matt Dillon and you’ve got a Camp classic that will stick with you for years to come. Extremely RARE Widescreen print! NOT AVAILABLE ON DVD! 96min + trailers preceeding the film including RUMBLE FISH, TEX and LEGEND OF BILLIE JEAN.

playing with...

9:45pm MEATBALLS – Directed by Ivan Reitman
Containing: Bill Murray, Matt Craven, Chris Makepeace, Kate Lynch. 1979
<img alt="Meatballs.jpg" align="right" style='margin-left:8px;'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/Meatballs.jpg" width="350" height="360" />

You won’t find a more perfect summer camp film than this BAD NEWS BEARS inspired fun-fest! Camp counselor Tripp Harrison (perhaps Bill Murray’s best role?) creates the ultimate summer extravaganza for his pre-pubescent attendees. The non-stop Camp hi-jinx include campfire stories, hot-dog eating contests, and pranks galore. This is good-ol’ fashion, clean fun... 1970’s style. The film’s competition climax between rivaling camps, combined with an extraordinary number of essential one-liners, you’ll feel like you’re thirteen-years-old all over again. (And that’s a good thing!) Preceeded by a pile of Camp-y trailers including REVENGE OF THE NERDS, MIDNITE MADNESS, SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE, SLEEPAWAY CAMP. 99min + trailers.

playing with...

Midnite REVENGE OF THE CHEERLEADERS – Directed by Richard Lerner
<img alt="RevengeCheerleaders.jpg" align="left" style='margin-right:8px;'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/RevengeCheerleaders-thumb.jpg" width="475" height="320" />
Containing: Jerii Woods, Cheryl Smith, Helen Lang, Patrice Rohmer, Susie Elene and... David Hasselhoff in his very first movie! 1976

Capping the night off is the grand finale of teenagers-running-amok flicks. This unstoppable T&A classic not only sports some of the most beautiful (naked) women of the 70’s, it showcases David Hasselhoff’s very first screen appearance… bare-ass and all! The film is overflowing with so many legendary sequences that I can’t decide which is the finest: Is it the bubble bath orgy in the high school locker room or the marijuana induced lunchroom food fight (which is easily the longest food fight in film history). Don’t miss this RARE chance to see one of the major inspiration’s for Tarantino’s DEATH PROOF! Plus this will be screened from a genuine Drive-In print, scratches and all. Plus, be prepared for an onslaught of quintessential 70’s T&A cheerleader trailers including THE CHEERLEADERS, THE SWINGING CHEERLEADERS, H.O.T.S. HOT T-SHIRTS & SWAP MEET! 88min + trailers.

Containing: Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, Corey Feldman, Dick Miller, Howie Mandel as Gizmo’s voice & Frank Welker as Stripe’s voice. 1984, 106min.

Our night of “Vertically Challenged Monsters” kicks off with one of the best Ancient Chinese secrets of the 1980’s. It all begins innocently when Billy receives his very own Mogwai, the most adorable pet in the world. (This is pre-Furby folks!) But Billy needs to keep his Mogwai away from bright lights, spilling water on him and especially, never feeding him after midnite. Sadly for Billy (but fortunately for us) the rules get broken and some of the most terrifying PG-13 monsters are set free to wreck havoc on the world. Experience this cute-critter classic with a whole new batch of 1980’s trailers preceeding the film. (Gizmo’s little purring song is worth the admission alone!)

<img alt="howardduck.jpg"align="left"style='margin-right:8px;'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/howardduck.jpg" width="250" height="200" />

9:45pm
HOWARD THE DUCK – Directed by William Huyck; Produced by George Lucas
Containing: Lea Thompson, Tim Robbins, Jeffrey Jones, & 8 actors inhabiting the $2M Howard the Duck costume! 1986, 111min.

So here it is folks… the Holy Grail of dismissed films from the 1980’s. This could be that “once-in-a-lifetime” chance to give George Lucas a happy-hug for his brave and misunderstood comic book adaptation. Follow Howard, an obscene, wise-cracking, cigar smoking duck who spouts out pop-culture references left and right, as he attempts to save the world from The Dark Overlord of the Universe. This 1980’s time capsule is chock-full of priceless goodies: Duck-boobies, a hyper-freaked-out scientist played by Tim Robbins and a New Wave punk’d-up Lea Thompson performing in an all grrrl glam-band. Screening for the first time in over 20 years, I hope that someday Sir George Lucas (and his ILM special effects team) will come to terms and embrace this misunderstood DUCK FLICK as much as we’re going to tonite! Preceeded by a few choice 80’s trailers. Extremely RARE print. Never released on DVD.

midnite TROLL 2 – Directed by Claudio Fragasso With SPECIAL GUESTS in person!
**Q&A following the screening with cast members Michael Stephenson, George Hardy. 1990, 95min.

Finally after 17 years, this infamous and irrelevant sequel to Troll, will grace the big screen for the very first time! Originally made for the video shelf, Troll 2 has become one of the most disrespected horror films in recent history. But more remarkable is how so many people from all over the world have fallen in love with this genuine failure (See www.bestworstmovie.com) without any prompting… until now. Be prepared to help protect our 12yr old hero, Joshua as he battles a gaggle of goblins, vicious vegetarians and a wickedly-wacked witch. (Curiously, there are no trolls in Troll 2.) This freeky fairytale sports some of the most memorable Method actors of our time, who just so happen to be appearing IN PERSON: Michael Stephenson (Joshua) and George Hardy (Dad) will hold a Q&A following this legendary screening. Top that with a handful of “Vertically Challenged Monster” trailers preceeding the film, plus a special Goblin cookie for audience members. (While supplies last!) Miss this and cry.

Asking someone to “go with you” to Prom was (is) one of the most horrifying memories from High Skool. Many just skipped the whole embarrassing event altogether. So here’s your chance to ask that certain someone to Prom. (And I wanna hear about how creative your propositions were!)

F 7:30p: Pretty In Pink - 1986, 96 mins
Directed by Howard Deutch, Written by John Hughes
Containing: Molly Ringwald, John Cryer, Andrew McCarthy, James Spader, Andrew “Dice” Clay, Kristy Swanson, Gina Gershon & Harry Dean Stanton.

We kick our Prom Night off with that ancient 80’s battle: The Yuppies vs. The New Wavers. As the kooky Duckman does his best to win the heart of fellow off-beat, post-punker Andie, the “major appliance” Blaine attempts to prove that there’s more to yuppie-love than hawt cars & blonde bimbos. With the red-headed charm of Ringwald, the dramatic romanticism of Cryer, and the soft-spoken words of McCarthy (not to mention the sleeze-drenched scenes of Spader-man), nothing captures late-80s High Skool Hollywood better than this. And beware, there’s gonna be some ‘80s Teen-trailers that will be as much fun as the feature!

9:45p: Carrie - Directed by Brian DePalma 1976, 98 mins
Containing: Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, William Katt, Nancy Allen, John Travolta, P.J. Soles;
<img alt="carrie2.jpg" align="left" style='margin-right:8px;'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/carrie2-thumb.jpg" width="300" height="420" /> Combining female empowerment, witch mythology, young adult novels & some good ol’ fashioned T&A, Stephen King’s first novel makes for the perfect big screen, blood-drenched, fright-fest. Carrie White’s (Spacek) good-natured innocence is put to the ultimate test by the most deliciously mean-spirited teenagers you ever did see. Even with the help of her Gym teacher & “The Greatest American Hero” (Katt), Carrie’s nightly battles with her over-bearing mother (Laurie) & the random cruelty from principals & neighborhood boys punctuates just how hellish High Skool truly is.
Come on out and support poor “Creepy Carrie” from all the meanies in the world!

11:59p (midnite): Prom Night - Directed by Paul Lynch 1980, 90 mins
Containing Jamie Lee Curtis, Leslie Nielsen, Casey Stevens, Anne Marie-Martin
<img alt="littlebastards-1.jpg" align="right" style='margin-left:8px;'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/littlebastards-1-thumb.jpg" width="320" height="240" />
We round out the night with this Canadian knockoff of John Carpenter’s Halloween, which packs quite a punch with it's ominous camera angles, brutal deaths and bitchin’ soundtrack. As the teens are hunted down by an axe-wielding maniac for a childhood crime they all committed, Jamie Lee Curtis will be awarded (by me) the Prom Queen crown for being totally sexy and for her show-stopping Disco dancing routine. Here’s your chance to see a true Stalker classic before the official remake disgraces theatres later this year. Plus, there’s gonna be some killer trailers from obscure Stalker films before the film!

Screening at The 25th Asian American Film Festival
Big Trouble In Little China - Directed by John Carpenter
Containing: Kurt Russell, Dennis Dunn, James Wong, Victor Wong, Kim Catrell

The time has come to celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of the greatest unsung achievements in cocaine-era Hollywood: John Carpenter’s BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA. Not only did this obscure classic bring dozens of Asian American actors and actresses to the white-washed screens of Hollywood, it also triggered a new appreciation for the Hong Kong martial arts cinema of the ‘70s & ‘80s.

Late one night, a macho American truck driver named Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) takes a wrong turn and finds himself smack dab in the middle of a hyper-stereotyped San Francisco Chinatown, filled with everything from underground caverns to mystical demons. Our Chinese American hero, Wang Chi (played triumphantly by Dennis Dun), joins forces with this ignorant trucker to help rescue a green-eyed beauty (Penthouse pet Suzee Pai) who’s been kidnapped by a 2000-year-old magician (all hail James Hong!) and his three invincible sidekicks, the martial arts masters Thunder, Rain & Lightning (Carter Huang, Peter Kwong and James Pax!) Throw in Egg Shen (the legendary sleepy-eyed Victor Wong), SEX AND THE CITY’s Kim Cattrall, hundreds of badasssss Hatchet Men and creepy sewer monsters and you’ve got one of the most exhilarating films of the ‘80s.

The film exploits every Chinese stereotype in the book, but director John Carpenter (HALLOWEEN; ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK) and cast take these racial myths to such heightened, self-aware levels that now, twenty years later, we can enjoy this Asian American celebration for what it truly is: A rockin-good time! This rare 35mm print was brought from the U.K., so do not miss this special event!

Directed by Rowdy Herrington
Containing: Sir Patrick Swayze, Ben Gazzara, Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliott & X's John Doe. Scope, 114min, 1989.

When misogyny & homophobia in the 1980’s reached their most extreme, a new genre was born, oozing with confused sexual repression: “So Straight, It’s Gay.” This mean-spirited knuckle-brusier of a film crowns Sir Patrick Swayze as the head bouncer in a small town bar named the Double Deuce Club (except I swear they keep saying the “Double Douche Club!”) What follows are the most over-the-top, ultra violent bar fights ever filmed! (Have you ever seen a guy get his throat ripped out... by hand?) But nothing will prepare you for the countless confusing one-liners, the amazingly awkward straight sex scenes and the ultimate oily Tai-Chi routine, epitomizing the most sexually confused decade of all…
Those Darn 80’s.

Directed by Tony Scott
Containing: Tom Cruise,
Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, Tom Skerritt, Michael Ironside, Tim Robbins, Meg Ryan. Scope. 110min, 1986.

Many joined the Air Force after watching this pinnacle “So Straight, It’s Gay” 80’s film. But for the rest of us, we started to pick up on some of the undertones (that only co-star Val Kilmer seems aware of.) This slick, bare-chested macho fest follows Maverick, who finds himself in the danger zone as he cruises to achieve Top Dawg in the fleet. But oddly enough, the dynamics between Cruise and Kilmer are much more breathtaking than any scenes with his intended heartthrob, Kelly McGillis. Come relive those tighty-whitey, synth-pop glory-days (all hail Giorgio Morodor!) except this time, you’ll be rooting for the other side of Tom Cruise.

11:59pm NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: Freddy’s Revenge
Directed by Jack Sholder (THE HIDDEN)<img alt="freddy2.jpg" align="right" style='margin-left:10px;'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/freddy2-thumb.jpg" width="250" height="200" />
Containing: Mark Patton, Kim Myers, Clu Gulager, Robert England. 1985.

With the tagline “You’ve got the body, I’ve got the brains,” Freddy takes a different approach in the most infamous installment of the Elm Street series. This time he “inhabits” Jesse, a confused & sexually frustrated teenage boy (Mark Patton gives the performance of his career… literally!) As the two confront Jesse's inner most fears, a sexual dilemma emerges from him (as well as a very high-pitched scream), resulting in an abundance of teen murders. This highly interesting, subversive (by default?) slasher film asks many more questions than it understands the answers for. But what would you expect from a movie that concocted a killer basketballs sequence and a psychotic parrot who self-destructs when cornered in the living room?! Preceded by a gaggle of slasher trailers from the 80’s!

95min, 1976

We kick off our Jodie Foster night with a nostalgic time about tomboys growing up too fast and when Disney films were actually funny. One morning, Annabel wakes up to find her-self switched into her mother’s body and vice-versa. As the two experience what it’s like to be in the other’s shoes, Foster proves that she truly was the greatest child actor of our time. (She made this wacky romp in the same year as playing the under-age prostitute in Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver.) Be prepared for some amazing trailers from your childhood preceeding the movie.

9:45pm FOXES – Directed by Adrian Lyne (Flashdance) <img alt="foxesAos.jpg" align="right" style='margin-right:8px;'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/foxesAos-thumb.jpg" width="300" height="240" />
Containing: Jodie Foster, Scott Baio, Sally Kellerman, Randy Quaid & Cherie Currie (The Runaways). Music by Giorgio Morodor, Donna Summer. 106min, 1980

This portrait of four teenage girls growing up in the late-70’s is as poignant and powerful as it was 27 years ago. The film captures that disenchanting moment as you start drifting away from your best friends. For Jeanie (Foster) the drugs, sluffing school, rocking out to your favorite band, even the cute skater boy (Baio), it’s all secondary when it comes to friendships. Problem is, things don’t always work out the way they’re suppose to. This really does rank up there with the most important teen films. Don’t miss this special screening!

<img alt="bugsymalone3.jpg" align="right" style='margin-left:12px;'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/bugsymalone3-thumb.jpg" width="182" height="231" />11:59pm BUGSY MALONE – Directed by Alan Parker (Fame)

Containing: Jodie Foster, Scott Baio and a whole lotta kids! Music by Paul Williams. 93min, 1976
You wanna talk about obscure cinema, how about an entire cast of kids, (led by Scott Baio and Jodie Foster!) that re-imagines the early 1920’s gangster story of Bugsy Malone as a down-right musical!? Each and every authentic roaring-twenties costume was specially cut-down for the child actors, while the tommy guns shot custard pies (aka “Splurge guns”). If that’s not bizarre enuff, all of the musical numbers were written and performed by kooky-eyed musician Paul Williams (Phantom of the Paradise)! As the tagline said in 1976, “Quite simply, there’s never ever been a movie like it.” Super rare 35mm print.

BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS - Directed by Colin Higgins - 1982
<img alt="parton-dolly-photo-dolly-parton-6205067.jpg" align="right" style='margin-left:8px;'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/parton-dolly-photo-dolly-parton-6205067-thumb.jpg" width="225" height="280" />Containing: Dolly Parton, Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Charles Durning.

Dolly Parton can evoke a smile from even the most hardened criminal… for more reasons than one. Which is why we have three films celebrating the joy that Dolly brings to our universe. Here Dolly shines as an optimistic prostitute in this wacky whorehouse hybrid: part nudie film, part musical extravaganza. This early 80’s camp-classic delivers as many raunchy innuendos, close-ups of Burt’s moustache, and foot-stomping Country/Western numbers to get you up and dancin’ the night away.
Nobody does it like Dolly! - 114 mins, SCOPE

9:45pm
NINE TO FIVE - Directed by Colin Higgins - 1980

Containing: Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, Dabney Coleman, Sterling Hayden.

Feminism reached mainstream America because of this movie right here. Come cheer for these three pragmatic, audacious, and hilarious women as they take on The Man (Coleman) and raise the chauvinist ceiling for the modern day working-woman. Rarely will you experience the dominance of actresses like Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton in one film. 110 min.
Make sure to get ADVANCE TIX early, cuz this baby is gonna be packed!
____________________________________________________________________________________________

11:59pm (midnite)
RHINESTONE - Directed by Bob Clark - 1984
<img alt="dolly.jpg" align="right" style='margin-left:8px;'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/dolly.jpg" width="252" height="321" />

Containing: Dolly Parton, Sylvester Stallone, Richard Farnsworth.

Apart from being the forgotten gem of both Dolly & Sly Stallone’s career, this 1980’s glitter-fest is also one of the funniest films you’ve never seen! Dolly plays a Country/Western singer who bets everything she has on being able to turn a typical New York cabbie (Stallone) into a famous singer. Dolly & Sly will have you laughing to tears (and I’m not even talking about their skin-tight 80’s costumes!) But what’s truly addictive about Rhinestone is how well it dances that fine line between total embarrassment and sheer brilliance. (You know which side I’m on!)
111 min, Pristine 16mm SCOPE print!
(Plus, this is directed by the man who made both BABY GENIUSES films!!)

ALL THREE FILMS for only $10.00!
Hosted By Jesse Hawthorne Ficks

MiDNiTES FOR MANiACS presents
Pop, Rock N' Lock Til You Drop Triple Feature!

<img alt="breakin.jpg" align="left" style='margin-right:8px;'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/breakin-thumb.jpg" width="222" height="269" />

7:30p:
BREAKIN'

Directed by Joel Silberg (Rappin’, Lambada), Containing: Lucinda Dickey, Adolfo “Shabba Doo” Quinones, Michael “Boogaloo Shrimp” Chambers and Ice-T. 1984, 90 mins

Pop, rock n’ lock yourself to this month’s Freeky Friday extravaganza, where Ozone and Turbo will teach you the ways of the Los Angeles “street dance” with an emphasis on spinning on your head, dancing late at night with a magical broom, and truly creating some of the greatest dance moves of the 1980s. This quintessential Breakdancing film has enough bandanas, ripped-up sweatpants, tiny moustaches, and dangly earrings for you to fall on the floor and start “doing the worm!” Plus, who doesn’t want to see a young spandex’d Jean-Claude Van Damme, dancing on the sidelines!

<img alt="beat street logo.gif" align="left" style='margin-right:8px;'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/beat%20street%20logo-thumb.gif" width="200" height="269" />

9:45pm
BEAT STREET

Directed by Stan Lathan, Containing: Rae Dawn Chong, Guy Davis, Jon Chardiet, Leon W. Grant, Saundra Santiago. 1984, 105 mins

Released the same year as Breakin’, this Bronx-based Breakdancing film showcases your most favorite b-boy (and b-girl) artists on the spray-painted, snowy streets of the old New York City. The musical performances are to-die-for including Africa Bambaataa, Melle Mel, Brenda Star, Kool Moe Dee and Doug E. Fresh. The dancing between the almighty Rock Steady Crew and the NYC Breakers is the best you’ll ever get and the story (even if it’s a bit hokey) is strikingly more poignant. Don’t miss yr chance to see this nostalgic classic on the big screen!

11:59pm (midnite)
COOL AS ICE

Directed by David Kellogg, Containing: Vanilla Ice, Naomi Campbell, Kristin Minter, Deezer D. as “Jazz”. 1991, 100 mins

“Yep, yep!” It’s time to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Vanilla Ice’s post-b-boy, ego-vehicle that was meant to crash & burn in 1991, but was destined to be a MiDNiTE FOR MANiACS in 2006! The original white rapper (Snow & Eminem have nothing on the Iceman!) plays a free-wheelin’ rebel-without-a-clue musician who rolls into a small town and meets a high-school honor student who catches his “livin’ large” heart. Can a “good” girl fall for such a “bad” guy? Come check out one of the most satisfying films you’ve never seen, which delivers a “stunning” visual style and acting performances that only dreams are made of. Extremely Rare Print! NOT ON DVD.

7:30pm
Return of the Living Dead
Written & directed by Dan O’Bannon Containing: Clu Gulager, James Karen, Linnea Quigley 1985, 91 mins.

Leave it to our government to mishandle some canisters containing toxic waste that creates an epidemicthreatening every person in the country. Come on out and cheer for yr favorite drrrty new wave punks as they take on the apathetic dead in this hilarious gore fest. And…this is a new print for this genuine 1980s horror classic!

9:45pm
Sid & Nancy
Directed by Alex Cox Containing: Gary Oldman, Chloe Webb, Courtney Love 1986, 112 mins

In the late-70s punk rock gave people the wake-up call that the decade needed. The side effects of total anarchy are brilliantly captured in this morbid biography about Nancy and Sid’s passionate and totally disturbing relationship. Oldman embodies Vicious perfectly as we watch heroin slowly turn him into his own kind of “walking dead.” Lastly, Courtney Love co-stars in what has to be one of the most eerily ironic roles in cinema history.

Written & directed by John Carpenter Containing: Roddy Piper, Keith David, 1988, 93 mins, ‘SCOPE

“I have come here to chew bubble-gum and kick ass! And I am all out of bubble-gum.” Pro-wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper does his best Kurt Russell impersonation in his ultimate fight against evil, brain-washing aliens who look and act exactly like the rest of the brain-dead society. One of the most subversive films ever made. Plus, the alley brawl is the longest fist-fight in film history! Come protected…wear your Ray-Bans at midnite!

Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone in 3-D
Directed by Lamont Johnson Containing: Peter Strauss, Molly Ringwald, Ernie Hudson, Michael Ironside 1983, 90 mins, ‘SCOPE

One of the few 3-D films made in the 80s to not be a three-quel, this gutsy, trashy sci-fi ditty has a bevy of bodacious babes, bounty hunters and a brilliant bad guy (psychotically played by Ironside). Be prepared to retrace your adolescence as the film combines Mad Max, Escape From New York, and Star Wars with creative special effects and killer vehicles. Throw in a super young Molly Ringwald, some hilarious dialogue and a bunch of compromising situations and you’ve got yourself the perfect 80’s obscurity…in 3-D!

<img alt="jaws_3d.jpg" align= 'right' hspace='8'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/jaws_3d-thumb.jpg" width="249" height="377" />

9:45pm
Jaws 3 in 3-D
Directed by Joe Alves Containing: Dennis Quaid, Bess Armstrong, Lou Gossett Jr., Lea Thompson 1983, 99 mins, ‘SCOPE

Originally planned as a spoof of the Jaws series, this hilariously serious installment takes the underwater terror… to Sea World! Mike Brody (Quaid) is all grown up (quite quickly might I add), yet he can’t seem to get away from those now growling sharks! Luckily for him, his girlfriend (Armstrong) has telekinetic powers over the dolphins who help this movie swim towards one of Hollywood’s greatest 3-D’s moments. Did I mention that this movie takes place at Sea World?! Amazing.

<img alt="friday_the_thirteenth_part_3.jpg" align= 'left' hspace='8'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/friday_the_thirteenth_part_3-thumb.jpg" width="225" height="339" />

11:59pm (midnite)
Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3-D
Directed by Steve Miner Containing: Dana Kimmell, Paul Kratka, Nick Savage, and Richard Brooker as “Jason” 1982, 95 mins, ‘SCOPE

Three-quels have never been given the respect that they deserve. But all that’s gonna change on this Friday the 13th. Especially when Jason Voorhees gets to slaughter a group of slutty teenagers using everything from pitchforks to harpoons. And the kicker isn’t just that it’s in glorious 3-D, this third chapter has the funky grooves of an electro-remixed soundtrack! You’ll be dancing in the aisles and screaming in your seats. Be prepared with yr Friday the 13th trivia, cuz I’ve got some amazing giveaways!

ALL THREE FILMS for only $10.00! Advance Tix available at www.ticketweb.com or at the Castro Theatre box office
Friday the 13th part IV: The Final Chapter
Directed by Joseph Zito Containing: Kimberley Beck, Corey Feldman, Crispin Glover, Ted White as Jason 1984, 90 mins

This supposed “final chapter” not only is the goriest film in the series, it’s also the best. A 13-year-old Corey takes on Jason Voorhees while Crispin does one of the greatest solo dance routines ever filmed. Special effects wizard Tom Savini returns to create the disturbingly gruesome murders and finally, we get to see Jason’s disfigured face. What more can you ask for? How about a reel of trailers preceeding the film, all of which have Crispin in them at some point!
1:00pm: River’s Edge
Directed by Tim Hunter Containing: Crispin Glover, Keanu Reeves, Ione Skye, Daniel Roebuck, Dennis Hopper. 1986, 99 mins

A group of suburban teenagers find one of their friends dead on the side of the river. Crispin gives a stunning performance as he attempts to keep the gang from falling apart in this near perfect film about the apathetic youth of the 80s. Do not miss this! Keanu gives one his best performances as well!

3:00pm Twister (not the tornado movie!)
Directed by Michael Almereyda Containing: Harry Dean Stanton, Suzy Amis, Crispin Glover, Dylan McDermott. 1989, 93 mins

An isolated family on a Kansas farm struggle to keep their sanity as they wait for a descending storm. Crispin perfects the oddball brother as he designs his own music downstairs and deals with his first relationship with a girl. This strange and honest family portrait will knock your socks off. As will the cameo by William S. Burroughs. Plus the closing credits song is composed entirely by Crispin!
MIDNITE DOUBLE FEATURE ($10)
11:59pm (midnite): The Orkly Kid
Directed by Trent Harris Containing: Crispin Glover, Elizabeth Daily 1984, 34 mins

This half hour short film was made just before Back To The Future and is actually the grand finale of it’s own trilogy: The Beaver Trilogy. Salt Lake City filmmaker Trent Harris cast Crispin to re-enact a documentary he made a few years prior about an Olivia Newton-John impersonator who designs a talent show in his small town of Idaho, hoping to showcase his disco-diva performance. Extremely Rare 16mm screening! (Not on DVD)

Plays with

Rubin & Ed
Directed by Trent Harris Containing: Crispin Glover, Howard Hesseman, Karen Black 1991, 82 mins

Crispin wanders across the Utah desert wearing bell-bottoms & 6 inch platform shoes, hoping to find the perfect place to bury his dead cat which he is carrying around in a cooler filled with ice. Did I mention his sidekick is Howard Hesseman from Head of the Class and WKRP in Cincinnati? Pure cult classic. And of course this is an extremely Rare 35mm screening! (Not on DVD)

Sunday, October 22nd
TRIPLE FEATURE for ONLY $10
11:30am Back To The Future
Directed by Robert Zemeckis Containing: Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover 1985, 111 mins

George McFly is one of the all time greatest characters from the 1980s. And looking back on this film, which is over 20 years old, Crispin is even more convincing now when you realize that he is actually the main character of the film! Bring out your kids, grandmas, little brothers and older sisters to one of the greatest films ever made... from the 1980s!

plays with
<img alt="bartleby.jpg" align='left' hspace='8'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/bartleby-thumb.jpg" width="267" height="179" />

1:40pm Bartleby
Directed by Jonathan Parker Containing: David Paymer, Crispin Glover, Joe Piscopo, Seymour Cassel 2001, 83 mins

Dead-end jobs are brought to life by Crispin’s wonderful performance in this dead-on deconstruction of desk-jobs. Based on Herman Melville's existential short story, Bartleby questions society with the simple response, “I would prefer not to.” This overlooked gem is a perfect counterpiece to Willard, Crispin’s r.a.t. infested remake proving that this decade is definitely Crispin’s return.

plays with
<img alt="glover-crispin-photo-crispin-glover-6205895.jpg" align='right' hspace='8'src="http://www.midnitesformaniacs.com/glover-crispin-photo-crispin-glover-6205895-thumb.jpg" width="280" height="224" />

3:15p: Willard
Directed by Glen Morgan Containing: Crispin Glover, R. Lee Ermey, Laura Elena Harring (of Mulholland Drive) 2003, 100 mins, ‘SCOPE

Crispin takes the lead role in this horrifying remake about a man who after being fired by his cruel boss, finds revenge by calling upon his rodent friends, especially one big, fat rat, Ben. Crispin sheds real tears in this frighteningly disturbing flick. Plus he sings the closing credits song, “Ben”, originally written and performed by Michael Jackson! In Widescreen!
This forgotten T&A classic not only has the greatest theme song of the 1980's ("Totally awesome video games!"), it combines everything you loved from that preposterous decade: Valley girls, arcades, nerds, slobs, boobies, left-over hippies and the all time greatest punk gang, The Vidiots (led brilliantly by Jonathan Gries of Napoleon Dynamite fame.) Help save the arcade from being closed down by those evil conservative townsfolk and yeah. Play some games while you're at it! You will not find another movie that genuinely captures the video game craze of the early 80's. Not available on DVD.

LATCH-KEY KIDS QUADRUPLE FEATURE

(Aka Kids without any parental guidence)

Friday - June 9th, 2006
______________________________________

7pm: CIPHER IN THE SNOW
Directed by Keith J. Atkinson
Containing: Robert Bridges, Bruce Kimball, Jacqueline Mayo
1973, 21min 16mm

We kick off this quadruple feature about latch-key kids with this early 70's Mormon-produced treasure that is virtually unknown since it was limited to only screening in classrooms during the 1970's & 80's. If you havn't been traumatized by this chilling LDS (Latter Day Saints) short film, this could be your only chance! Warning: Ultra-Rare 16mm print is in very brittle condition.

7:45pm: RUMBLE FISH
Directed by Francis Ford Coppola
Containing: Matt Dillon, Mickey Rourke, Dennis Hopper, Tom Waits,
Nicolas Cage, Diane Lane
1983, 94min Glorious 35mm Widescreen

Following on the heels of THE OUTSIDERS, Coppola released this haunting exploration of two brothers inhabiting a dead-end city, on the dead-end side of the tracks, watching a dead-end decade slip through their fingers. Everything from the crisp, black & white cinematography to the nuanced performances by Dillon and Rourke is utterly hypnotizing. And topping everything are those fish… Jesus, those shimmering fish! You'll never forgive yourself if you don't come on out and see this forgotten 80's gem in all it's glory, on the big screen.

9:45p: The WARRIORS
Directed by Walter Hill
Containing: Michael Beck, David Patrick Kelly, James Remar, Dorcey Wright, Mercedes Ruehl
1979, 93min, 35mm

"Warriors! Come out and plaaayy!" You've played the video game, you've seen the new director's cut complete with lame animation, now see what could be one of the last screenings of the original O.G. version before Tony Scott's remake brainwashes all your remaining memories. Whatever baadasssss costume you come dressed in, make sure you cheer for your favorite gang!

11:59p: STREETS OF FIRE
Directed by Walter Hill
Containing: Michael Pare, Diane Lane, Rick Moranis, Willem Dafoe, Bill Paxton, E.G. Daily 1984, 93min, Glorious 35mm widescreen

Freaky neon sets, sleazy 1950's greasers, and punky-pop- synth songs make this gang-infested adventure an all-time unknown 80's favorite! Lane basically reprises her role from Ladies & Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains but now she's a Pat Benetar-ish pop singer who gets snatched up by a sleazy gang-leader (Dafoe). Luckily, her ex-sweetheart (Pare), her nerdy boyfriend (Moranis), and the goofy bartender (Paxton) all pitch in to save her sexy bod as well as the climatic New Wave musical
finale. Do not miss this!

All four films for only $10.00! Advance Tix at www.ticketweb.com or
the Castro Theatre box office.

Plus tons of old trailers from movies you probably watched too many times as a kid.

Hey Maniax,
Thank you sooooo much for coming out to the GRRRRL Punk triple header last month! It truly was a dream come true.

But let's forget about March. It's time for some April 2006! And take a look at this early 80's Aerobicize triple feature!

Friday, April 21, 2006
"MiDNiTES FOR MANiACS" presents

Staying Alive
F: 7:30p
Written & Directed by Sylvester Stallone
Cast: John Travolta, Cynthia Rhodes, Finola Hughes, Steve Inwood,
(cameo by Sly)
1983, 93 minutes

We kick off our Aerobicize Triple Feature with John Travolta reprising his role from Saturday Night Fever, only now it's the early-80's and disco-dancing has mutated into an electro-aerobics scene, where slutty spandex, homemade headbands and laser light- shows rule the night! With an unstoppable amount of memorable one-liners, writer/director Sylvester Stallone redefines the rock-montage sequence by making an entire sweat-fest in super- slow motion, back dropped to the beats of his brother's musical genius, Frank Stallone. This 1983 oddity is 93 minutes of pure bliss.

Flashdance
F: 9:45p
Directed by Adrian Lyne (FOXES)
Cast: Jennifer Beals, Michael Nouri, Lilia Skala, Lee Ving
1983, 95 minutes

"What a Feeling!" Jennifer Beals gives the performance of her career as a welder(?) who has dreams of becoming a ballet dancer. Beals perfectly captures the street-smart break-dancer who takes on the upper class-ically trained, and creates some kind of weird hybrid dancing called…Flashdance! Come on boys and girls, bust out those leg-warmers, strap on those sweatbands and lock in those walkmans, while we pay respect to this seminal 1983 extravaganza.

Heavenly Bodies
F: MIDNITE (11:59p)
Directed by Lawrence Dane
Cast: Cynthia Dale, Richard Rebiere, Laura Henry, Pam Henry
1984, 90 minutes

Cynthia Dale (giving the only performance of her career) plays Samantha, a plucky young dancer who dreams of opening her very own health club, where you can stretch, sweat and have tons of fun. But once achieved, the threats begin to pile up from the male corporate competition. So Sam does what any gutsy woman would do…she challenges "the man" to a televised Aerobics-athon! Combining an insane amount of sexual sleaze with utterly inane dialogue, this Canadian knock-off of Flashdance is one of the most brilliantly absurd 80's films you've never heard of. (Not on DVD)

Admission is only $10.00 for all three films.
